What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy, or cold therapy, is used to help treat a number of chronic conditions, as well as aid in post-workout recovery. Lehigh Valley Cryotherapy offers Whole Body Cryotherapy, which exposes the entire body to extreme cold for a short duration. This exposure activates the body’s natural healing mechanisms and caues your metabolic rate to rise.

How does Cryotherapy work?

Our fully-trained staff will assist you into the Cryotherapy chamber. We will be with you the entire time and will monitor the temperature of the chamber to ensure optimal results. Temperatures in the chamber may reach as low as —140 to -225 degrees Fahrenheit.  An average session lasts 2-3 minutes. As your body reacts to the temperature shift, it goes through three phases.

Phase One: Recognition

As the temperature dips, your blood vessels and muscle tissue constrict, forcing blood to the core of your body. In the core, the body’s natural filtration system removes toxins and reduces inflammation.

Phase Two: Revitalization

Immediately following your session, your newly filtered blood travels back through your body. Now enriched with oxygen, nutrients and enzymes, your blood warms and enriches your skin and muscles and your range of motion increases.

Phase Three: Restoration

Over the next 48 hours, your body returns to an enhanced state with reduced pain and inflammation and increased energy levels. Recovery time from strenuous workouts and injury are improved and shortened.
